Herd Sires

Indian Mound Ranch believes that success happens when you breed the best possible cows to the best possible herd bulls. Each year we only turn out herd sires that are either the top bulls raised at our ranch or bulls that we have purchased from the most respected cow herd in North America. Below are some of the bulls in use at our ranch currently.

IMR 710E DOMINO 0117H ET

AHA NUMBER: 44131672
0117H is our pick to carry on the legacy of CL 1 Domino 710E 1ET. He is the best prospect to raise females that we have ever raised. His dam, 1014Y, is the anchor of our embryo program for many reasons. She produces performance, look and style with plenty of pigment. The thing that she really brings to the table is udder quality! She is now 10 years old with a great udder and she has raised many daughters, granddaughters and more with the same great udders. Now combine that with 710E who has one of the most beautiful sets of first calf heifers that we have ever had on the ranch and the 0117H daughters should hit it out of the park. Now when analyzing this bull, you will also note that like his sire 710E he should be a terrific heifer bull. We will be calving heifers bred to him in the spring and are excited to see the calves. Finally, for those of you who like studying pedigrees and history you will find this pedigree full of Indian Mound history, going all the way back to Dad’s best 300C daughter in the 1980’s and CH Domino 359 in the 1970’s.

IMR 5025C DOMINO 8051F

AHA NUMBER: 43906184
Our son, Mark Haygood, takes full credit for picking 8051F to use on heifers in 2019 and he did talk me into giving him a try. That was a great decision, and we got the best heifer bull that we have ever used. He truly is a calving ease bull that lets you sleep at night without worrying about the heifer pen. He has grown to make an impressive bull and his progeny will sell in our upcoming sales. We feel that temperament is one of the true hallmark traits of the Hereford breed and he is awesome in that category. Finally, when studying the pedigree of this bull the list of breed leading herd bulls in his lineage is unbelievable. 8051F’s dam, 0027X, is the Matriarch of one of our elite cow families that has produced sale topping bulls and dams of distinction.

CL 1 DOMINO 710E 1ET

AHA NUMBER: 43800218
710E is one of the best and most complete bulls in the country today. This outstanding, Line 1, bull is proving to be a light birth weight, calving ease sire. What is unique about 710E is that the story keeps getting better as he breeds good growth and performance with real carcass merit. 710E is attractive, long bodied and deep sided with an excellent muscle pattern. Finally, he is short marked and red eyed. He may be the most complete son of 215Z and his beautiful mother is in the donor pen at Cooper Hereford Ranch. HH ADVANCE 5095C ET

AHA NUMBER: 43579267
OWNED WITH: Coates Ranch of Mertzon, Texas
This year we have an outstanding set of son’s in the sale out of 5095C. We loved this bull when we found him at Holden Herefords 2016 sale and made him one of the top sellers to get him to Texas. His dam is possibly the most productive cow in the Holden program in the last 10 years putting herd bulls all over the country. We like to have herd bulls with that kind of cow power behind them. His sire is an outstanding son of CL 1 Domino 860U. As we have weighed cattle over the last year it seems that the 5095C progeny are always the heaviest. He brings lots of length and growth, but also lots of muscle and pounds. We have another powerful group of 5095C calves
in the 2018 group and will keep his genetics in our herd for years to come.

IMR 3128A ADVANCE 5008C

AHA NUMBER: 43582243
We kept 5008C to use on heifers but he has proved to be much more than just a heifer bull. He is one of four bulls that we added to the program in 2016 and he might be the most complete of the group. He has been one of the best calving ease bulls that we have ever used, but his progeny have average ratios of 100.1 at weaning, 102.8 at yearling, 106.2 for marbling and 100.8 for rib eye area. He was the first calf out of his awesome, young mother who is heading towards our embryo program. She is moderate, deep and easy fleshing with a great udder and lots of femininity. We can’t wait to get 5008C daughters into production and the sons should really build replacement heifers wherever they work. When you look at this bull you will be impressed with how stout, muscular and deep that he is and how well he holds his flesh.

IMR L1 177R DOMINO 5025C ET

AHA NUMBER: 43603505
5025C is another of our outstanding set of young sires here at Indian Mound Ranch. He may be the best looking bull of the group. He is extremely attractive, smooth made, with a long and clean neck. He is still muscular and really expressive in his design. We wanted to keep a herd bull out of his great mother and he really fit the bill. His dam is a full sister to the Cooper Herefords, herd sire, HH Advance 3113N. His sire is the great Gino Pedretti bull, GB L1 Domino 177R. 5025C is straight Line 1 and full of maternal strength. He has proven to be a calving ease sire and we have used him successfully on heifers. The last two years we have given him a strong set of cows and are excited about the future.

5183C was our pick of the Cooper Hereford Ranch sale in 2016. He is a real tank, deep, thick and powerfully designed. He is also out of a tremendous, power cow, CL 1 Dominette 9140W 1ET, who is the dam of the $160,000 herd sire CL 1 Domino 105Y. He has been good for calving ease and his calves are moderate sized, thick designed with good rib and depth. His progeny have really excelled in Marbling with an average ratio of 108.2. AHA NUMBER: 43473851
4028B is a proven light birthweight bull that has one of our very top cows behind him. His dam, IMR 8542 Dominette 2052Z, is a big and beautiful cow with a great udder. She had seven popular sons in our 2017 sale and will continue to be a major player in our embryo program. The first daughters of 4028B have calved and they are among our favorite, first calf heifers. CMF 59Z CONFIDENCE 204C

AHA NUMBER: 43658389
Confidence is a powerful addition to our Polled division bull battery. We purchased him from Candy Meadows Farms in Tennessee and he is doing a great job for us. He is a very long bodied and attractive bull who still packs plenty of muscle. His dam is a perfect uddered, dam of distinction, out of Revolution and going back to Dateline. This pedigree is full of performance and great females. The first calf crop out of Confidence will be weaned in the fall of 2018 and they look really strong.

SR SPOT ON 1214B ET

AHA NUMBER: 43486724
We purchased Spot On from Stuber Hereford Ranch in Bowman, North Dakota but he is straight bred with the best of Ned and Jan Wards genetics. His sire, 88X, has been a force in the Hereford industry with sons working all over the country and his dam, 78P, has an amazing 122 calves registered at the AHA and has been flushed by NJW Polled Herefords as well as Stuber and Upstream Ranch. Spot On is a total meat wagon. You won’t find many mature Hereford bulls with the thickness that he has and passes on to his sons. We will calve his first daughters next spring and we are excited with how they look.

NJW 33TB 100W TRUST 167Y

AHA NUMBER: 43214415
167Y is one of those rare bulls that does everything well. We picked 167Y at Ned and Jan Ward’s sale because he was above average in their herd for weaning, yearling, REA and Marbling while still being very attractive with good thickness and depth. We hoped that he would breed that same total performance into his calves and he has even exceeded our expectations. He sires light birth weights and has an average birth weight ratio of 97.6 on his progeny to date. His calves have plenty of growth and outstanding carcass data with an average REA ratio of 100.3 and an average Marbling ratio of 108.5 on all of his progeny so far. We calved his first daughters this spring and they look terrific with very nice udders. We recently leased 167Y to the Genex Cooperative and they will begin to market semen on him in the fall of 2015.

HH ADVANCE 2037Z ET

AHA NUMBER: 43281591
OWNED WITH: Rocking Chair Ranch, Fort McKavett, Texas and Ledbetter Cattle Company, Wheeler, Texas
2037Z is a powerful individual who is full of muscle and depth. We gravitated to him at Holden’s because he was so complete and we felt he was the stoutest Line 1 bull we had seen in some time. His calves have followed his pattern and are very attractive while being tremendously thick muscled and easy fleshing. His calves have been above average at birth and although we would not recommend him or his sons for use on heifers, we would not hesitate to use him or his sons on mature cows. We will calve the first set of daughters in the spring of 2016 and have very high expectations. 2037Z’s dam is a full sister to the outstanding maternal sire HH Advance 8050U. In summary, 2037Z will add muscle thickness, fleshing ability and overall ruggedness and has a top maternal pedigree.

AHA NUMBER: 42915174
SEMEN FOR SALE: $25.00 per Straw and $75.00 per Certificate
OWNED WITH: Coates Ranch, Mertzon, Texas
The best way to describe “08542” is that he gets better and better with time. We always knew that he was a tremendous individual who is thick, big ribbed, attractive and well marked. Each year that we have used him we seem to just get better calves. His son’s have been popular in the sale because they are so stout and muscular. His daughters are moderate framed with beautiful udders and have posted an average weaning weight of 108.4 on their calves at weaning. Another bright spot for his progeny has been carcass traits with an average REA ratio of 100.1 and an average Marbling ratio of 103.2 on his progeny. We will have many daughters in production and so he will play a large roll in our herd for many years to come.

CL 1 DOMINO 955W

AHA NUMBER: 42982422
We were one of 7 breeders to buy an in-herd breeding interest in 955W after the Cooper Hereford Ranch Sale in 2010. In 2012 we sold our first sons with herd bulls going to two of the top Hereford operations in the United States, GKB Herefords in Waxahachie, Texas and Dudley Brothers in Comanche, Texas. The “955W” cattle combine showring quality phenotype with the stoutness to go anywhere and perform. You will continue to see the “955W” influence at Indian Mound Ranch for years to come.
